As tattooing keeps growing as a mainstream art form and as an industry, more and more tattoo conventions and festivals are cropping up across the Indian subcontinent. From less than a handful couple of years back to the number going to almost double digits now, tattoo conventions are rocking the alt scene in this part of the world now. But in this bustle of growing number of conventions and footfalls and brands involved, one tattoo festival still manages to keep itself dedicated to the core idea of a tattoo festival; Together For Art. And that festival is Nepal Inked – a tattoo & lifestyle convention unlike any you have come across.

This year, in its 5th edition, Nepal Inked promises to keep its charm alive. It will witness the assembly of 60 amazing tattoo artists, from all corners of the world, practicing unique styles and forms of tattooing, and individually some of them are regarded as true masters of their craft. As an art lover, the Nepal Inked weekend is my personal favourite in the scene because it gives you the special opportunity of witnessing and interacting with some of the most sought after minds of tattooing and advocates of street culture. And when all of that happens in the mountains, well… you know how magical an experience that becomes.

For a tattoo lover/enthusiast/collector/junkie, it doesn’t get much better than seeing the likes of Kali Tattoo, Dong Dong C, Raph Cemo, Mike Dorsey, Kenji Alucky and Yogesh Waghmare under the same roof for a weekend. And that’s barely the entire list. For example, I am personally so damn excited to see Gordo Letters’ calligraphy work. And apart from tattooing, the music is to die for in Nepal Inked. From the mysticism of Kanta Dab Dab to MiKu’s poetry to banging your wits out to Underside, Nepal Inked has always had a packed floor for the music acts.

The place is also filled with un-ordinary jewellery, apparel, accessories and so much more. One of my memories from last year was the morning Yoga sessions. When you start your session, half your body is submerged in the clouds, and by the time your session comes to a close, the sun is shining bright and so is your soul. Organised by the powerhouse of tattooing in South Asia, John Ma and co., this festival creates a unique premise that effortlessly blends all the alternative subcultures, ultimately creating an experience for you that is unparalleled in this scene.

So remember – first weekend of October (5th to 7th), this is where you should be, because this is where you experience tattooing in its most magical form.Β See you there!
